This yearly meeting is a mechanism that promotes the place of women and their right to equality throughout the world.

Indeed, UN member states have signed a resolution committing to improving the status of women in the world in various social fields (economy, etc.). The Teamsters Union participates actively in this high-level event to raise the awareness of the heads of the Canadian delegation members of the UN on our positions on various issues of importance to us. Pay equity, violence against women and sexual equality in the workplace in times of crises are but a few examples of such issues.

The International Women’s Day takes on all its meaning here. A lot of work has been accomplished. However, reports produced by each member country as well as community groups and unions stress the fact that the fight for equality has not yet been won. We hope that our efforts will produce results and that the status of women will continue to improve.
