Laval, August 15, 2012 – Dozens of volunteers joined the Club Quad les Randonneurs on July 7 for ATV Day, an outing organized for 142 special needs children at Camp Papillon.
The fifth edition of ATV Day was captured on video to mark the anniversary of this annual event (video available in French only).
Located on the shores of Lake Pierre, 40 kilometres north of Joliette, Camp Papillon is a vacation camp for children with disabilities and a respite site for parents. The Teamsters Union provides financial support to the camp, raising nearly $500,000 over the last 25 years through the Omnium Teamsters Québec.
After the ATV rides, the children were regaled by clowns, mascots, magicians and makeup artists, much to their delight.
“There is nothing more gratifying than to see these kids smile,” said Alain DeGrandpré, president of the Teamsters’ Joint Council 91. “It was a magical moment for them, and for us.”
Alain DeGrandpré went on to thank all the volunteers and especially André Paquin of Local Union 106, which organized the event.
“This is our way of making a small difference in these kids’ lives, but truth be known, they make a big difference in ours,” concluded the labour activist.
The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada in all trades. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, with which Teamsters Canada is affiliated, has 1.4 million members in North America.
