A conductor working for Canadian National (CN) died yesterday afternoon at the Pointe-Saint-Charles rail yard in Montréal.

Teamsters Quebec generous despite the pandemic

Brothers François Laporte and Éric Laramée, respectively President of Teamsters Canada and Secretary-Treasurer of Local Union 1999, presented on behalf of Local Unions 106, 931, 555M, 1791, 1999, as well as Teamsters Canada Rail Conference and Teamsters Canada Rail Conference - Maintenance of Way Employees Division, a cheque for $60,000 to Fondation Papillon.

Zero Tolerance for Violence Against Women

One out of every four violent crimes reported to the police is a case of domestic violence, according to Statistics Canada. Women's Shelter Canada indicated in its most recent report that of the 550 shelters it supports, 59% reported a decrease in calls at the beginning of the pandemic. However, as the lockdown measures eased, more than half of these shelters (61%) experienced a surge in calls.

Passing of Tom Keegel

C. Thomas “Tom” Keegel, General Secretary-Treasurer Emeritus of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020 following a lengthy illness. Keegel served as the union’s general secretary-treasurer from 1999 until 2012.
